Sweet Dreams uses about 2% of your battery a day

Sweet Dreams uses an average of 2% of your iPhone's battery per day. That includes your Live Activity, Apple Watch and widgets, because our server does the work and your phone just shows the results.

How it works

An app that checks for readings itself has to wake your iPhone up in the background again and again, then process each reading on the phone. Sweet Dreams moves that work to our server.

  1. Our server fetches your readings from your CGM's cloud service, such as Dexcom Share or LibreLinkUp.
  2. It works out your trend and checks your alerts.
  3. It pushes the update to your Live Activity, Apple Watch and widgets, and sends any alerts.

Your iPhone doesn't have to keep waking up to poll for readings, so it uses very little battery, even with a Live Activity on all day.

Common questions

Does Sweet Dreams drain my battery?

No. Sweet Dreams uses an average of 2% of your iPhone's battery per day. Our server fetches and processes your CGM readings, so the app doesn't need to keep running in the background to check for new ones.

Do Live Activities use a lot of battery?

Not with Sweet Dreams. Our server sends each update to your Live Activity as a push, so your iPhone only does a little work when a new reading arrives. Nothing on your phone has to keep checking for readings.

Why does Sweet Dreams use so little battery?

All the processing happens on our server, including for Live Activities. The server fetches your readings from your CGM's cloud service, works out trends and alerts, and pushes updates to your iPhone, Apple Watch and widgets. Your phone just shows them.

Do frequent refreshes use more battery?

With FreeStyle Libre or Medtrum you can ask for a Live Activity refresh every minute or two instead of every 5 minutes. Each update is still a push from our server, but more updates means a little more battery. See Live Activity.

How can I check how much battery Sweet Dreams uses?

On your iPhone, go to Settings → Battery and scroll down to see battery use by app for the last 24 hours or 10 days.
